Thayne is the heart of Star Valley, located in the midst of National Forest, National Parks and nearby resort areas with altitudes ranging from 5,600 feet to over 10,000 feet. This valley is fed by seven mountain lakes, three major rivers and numerous pure water springs, creeks and streams flowing into a twenty mile long lake.

The lakes, rivers and streams provide premier fishing for Cutthroat trout, German Browns, Brookies, Rainbows and Mackinaw.

The forest surrounding the valley are filled with big game, including Elk, Moose, Mule Deer, Bear, and Mountains Lions. Geese, Ducks, Sandhill Cranes, Trumpeter Swans, Grouse, Bald Eagles, Hawks, Foxes and other wildlife can be found throughout the valley.
